Blue Ice & Black Sands - Skaftafell Combination Tour

Glacier Hiking on Falljökull outlet glacier and a wildlife sightseeing trip to the historic Ingólfshöfði cape, departing from Skaftafell National Park.

Trip difficulty 2 out of 5 possible. Easy.

Our adventure begins with a visit to the bedazzling world of Icelandic glaciers, traversing a spectacular but easy track on the glacier.

Walking on the ancient ice with crampons under the soles of our shoes, we will see unique ice formations and deep blue cauldrons, learning about how they are formed and how the glacier reshapes itself continuously. You will enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding mountains as you walk towards a massive ice fall, crawling off a neighboring mountain.

The adventure continues as we head for a wildlife exploration in the historic Ingólfshöfði cape, an isolated island caught between the black sands of the south coast and the North-Atlantic Ocean. This is where, in the year 874, Ingólfur Arnarson, the first settler of Iceland, came ashore and spent his first winter in Iceland. The adorable Puffins, Razorbills, Fulmars, Guillemots and Arctic Skua amongst other species now inhabit the cape numbering in the thousands.

To get there we will have to cross six km of waters, marshes and sands in a tractor pulled hay trolley. After arriving at the cape we will go for a short hike (2-3 km) so we can take a closer look at the sea cliffs where the graceful seabirds, so characteristic for Iceland, nest during the very short arctic summer.
