Our world-renowned “Glacier Explorer” glacier adventure takes you to one
of the most impressive outlet glaciers of the giant Vatnajökull ice
cap.
We will take a short walk along a winding path through the dramatically
changing landscape carved out by the glacier. Arriving at the foot of
the glacier we will gear up on crampons. With your guide leading the way
you will soon be exploring dramatic terrain, walking through a
wonderland of ice formations and brilliant blue colors.
You will enjoy vast, sweeping panoramic views of the surrounding
mountains and the amazing crevasse system. Depending on the glacier
conditions we will enter the rugged and chaotic ice fall where is
tumbles over the side of the underlying mountain and towards the ocean.
Imagine the feeling of standing in an actual icefall, up close and
personal with the ancient ice.
This trip will provide you with plenty of photo opportunites and the
chance to gain a deep understanding of this magnificent glacier, how it
is formed and how it continues to change shape everyday.
Guaranteed departures everyday at 9:00 and 13:00 from the May 15th –
September 15th. Transport is provided from Skaftafell, pick-up from
Hótel Skaftafell and Svínafell camp site.

Duration of trip: Approx 5 hours. (4 hours on the glacier, 30 minute breathtaking approach).
No minimum number of participants in June, July & August.
Age limit: 15 years.
A packed lunch will be provided.
Bring with you: Warm outdoor clothing, waterproof jacket and pants,
headwear and gloves. Good hiking shoes are recommended! You can rent
hiking shoes and waterproof clothing should you need them for 500 ISK a
piece.
